Why is the concentration of tretinoin prescribed much lower than retinol?
Retinols in over-the-counter formulations are often sold at higher percentages (e.g. 1%) but they are inactive vitamin A derivatives and need to be converted in the skin first. On the other hand, retinoids are already activated, so they’re stronger, more potent, and so the lower strength ensures your skin has time to adjust to them.

To minimize side effects and make sure your skin has time to adapt, we start all of our Dermatica formulas at a low dose, then increase the strength gradually. If you’ve used tretinoin in the past, please let us know in your consultation and we’ll be able to match the strength you used before as best as we can.
What else can I do to help my skin look its best?
In addition to our skin glow treatment, there are other things you can do to help improve your skin.

A simple skincare routine with a gentle face wash, moisturizer and sunscreen is a great place to start. Another technique is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, by eating a balanced diet and staying active.

Try to eat foods that are low in saturated fat and sugar, and add plenty of Omega-3, protein and complex carbohydrates to your meals. Lowering your intake of alcohol can also help, as drinking it can lead to your skin becoming dehydrated.

We also recommend avoiding smoking, as it releases free radicals and causes oxygen depletion, which accelerates skin aging and can make your skin appear more dull.

Finally, we strongly advise applying SPF regularly and taking precaution to avoid direct sunlight, as this can also lead to dehydration and skin aging.
