The science demystified

Advanced Dark Spot Corrector Serum harnesses two forms of ingredient encapsulation. This next-generation nanotechnology enhances the benefits and performance of active ingredients in skincare.

• stabilizing encapsulation (kojic acid).
• Controlled release encapsulation (glycolic acid).

Encapsulation is used to stabilize sensitive active ingredients, like kojic acid. At a microscopic level, each individual molecule is coated in a liposome layer that works as a shield to protect kojic acid from exposure to light, air and heat, so it doesn’t degrade during use.

Controlled release encapsulation enhances how glycolic acid is delivered to the skin. The molecules are encapsulated in a similar way, but using cyclodextrin. When the serum reaches your skin, this layer melts away and gradually releases the active, so it doesn’t feel unnecessarily harsh and still retains all its brightening benefits.

Follow with moisturizer and always remember to apply broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF30+) at least 15 minutes before going outside.

Disclaimer: This product is suitable for most skin types and all skin tones. It is not suitable for sensitive or rosacea-prone skin. If your current topical (applied to the skin) treatment or skincare product contains tranexamic acid, layering additional products with the same active ingredient may increase the risk of skin irritation.

Dermatica - Introduction to Dark Spot Serum

Introduction to Dark Spot Serum

Treat dark spots smarter, not harsher. Advanced Dark Spot Corrector Serum targets all types of uneven skin tone and texture with microscopic precision – including dark patches, post-blemish marks and visible sun damage.

Created with dermatologists, this intelligent blend of three evidence-based actives helps brighten and unify uneven skin tone. Next-generation encapsulation technology enhances the brightening benefits of kojic acid and glycolic acid, to boost this serum’s performance at a molecular level.

1% Encapsulated kojic acid
Helps lighten the appearance of dark spots, including post-blemish marks. Encapsulation shields this unstable ingredient from light and air, to maintain its potency during use.

5% Encapsulated glycolic acid
Gently exfoliates dead, dull or rough skin cells to visibly soften signs of aging, enlarged pores and sun damage. Encapsulation delivers glycolic acid to the skin gradually throughout the day – helping to refine skin texture and smoothness, without feeling unnecessarily harsh on the skin.

3% Tranexamic acid
Helps brighten dullness, improve radiance and even out the skin tone.

FAQs

Can I use this with my Dermatica personalized formula?
Yes, most people can. However, there are a few situations where our dermatology experts do not recommend adding this to your routine.

This product may not be suitable if:
• You have sensitive, damaged or rosacea-prone skin
• You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, as it contains tranexamic acid.
• Your personalized formula already contains tranexamic acid (overusing this ingredient may cause skin irritation).

Tip: Try gradually introducing Advanced Dark Spot Corrector Serum, 1-2 times a week at first. Doing this will help you understand what your skin can tolerate and reduce the risk of irritation.
Which countries do you ship to?
Our Advanced Dark Spot Corrector Serum is currently available in the UK, US and EU.
Does the Advanced Dark Spot Corrector Serum contain any fragrance?
No, it’s completely fragrance-free.
Can I use it if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
Our dermatology team does not recommend this product while pregnant or breastfeeding, because it contains tranexamic acid.

Currently, we don’t have enough reliable evidence to say if tranexamic acid in skincare is safe during pregnancy. So, to stay on the safe side, we suggest you use an alternative for now until we know more.

Two pregnancy-safe routine essentials with similar benefits:

• Vitamin C 15%: Fresh Batch Ascorbic Acid – Apply in the morning before sunscreen to help fight dark spots, dullness, signs of aging and loss of skin firmness. Or,
• Clarifying Azelaic Acid 12% Cream – Apply once a day, morning or evening, on clean, dry skin. This multi-action cream helps boost cell turnover and treat post-blemish marks, breakouts, dark spots and signs of aging. It’s also suitable for sensitive skin.

If you are subscribed to a personalized formula, your pregnancy-safe treatment plan will already contain azelaic acid. You should not use Advanced Dark Spot Corrector Serum as well, as this may cause irritation.
Can I use this product during summer?
Yes, you can use this product during summer. Just remember to wear broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF30+) every morning, as the last step of your morning routine. It’s also best to stay in the shade during peak daylight hours, which is usually around 11am-4pm. This is when UV rays are at their strongest.

Advanced Dark Spot Corrector Serum contains an active ingredient called glycolic acid, which has mild exfoliating properties that can make unprotected skin more sensitive to sun exposure, which can cause dark spots to get worse.

If you choose to use Advanced Dark Spot Corrector during summer, you may want to use a sunscreen with SPF50, as the higher Sun Protection Factor (SPF) will help shield your skin for longer.
