What else can I do to help with melasma?
There are many underlying factors to melasma, such as hormonal changes from pregnancy or hormone treatment, as well as sun exposure. People with darker skin are also more prone to the condition because their skin contains more melanin. While it might not be possible to avoid normal hormonal fluctuations, it's recommended that you talk to your doctor to check if a hormonal imbalance could be the cause.

Using a Dermatica personalized formula will help reduce the appearance of melasma, but other treatments may be required too. Avoiding direct sunlight and applying sun protection frequently will also help to improve the appearance.
What to expect from treatment
When you first start using a topical treatment, you may notice your skin becoming flaky and slightly swollen. The treatments can also make your skin feel dry and tight as well as give you a burning, itching or stinging sensation. If you experience the above reaction, please do not worry, this is a normal response when starting treatment. To allow your skin to get used to your treatment, we recommend sticking to a simple skincare routine and applying a small amount at first to build up your tolerance. It's also OK to take rest days from treatment in between, before building up gradually to daily use. Applying a small amount of moisturizer to the skin before applying treatment, and after, can also help reduce side effects while still delivering the same great results.
